Last night in the presidential debate, in response to a woman asking how the candidates would help make pay equity a reality, Governor Mitt Romney said this:
Thank you, an important topic, and one which I learned a great deal about, particularly as I was serving as governor of my state because I had the chance to pull together a cabinet, and all of the applicants seemed to be men, and I went to my staff and I said how come all of the people for these jobs are all men? And they said these are the people who have the qualifications. And I said, gosh, can’t we find some women that are also qualified? And so we took a concerted effort to go out and find women who had backgrounds that could be qualified to become members of our cabinet. I went to a number of women’s groups and said can you help us find folks? They brought us whole binders full of women!
At the time my response on Twitter was:
"Whole binders full of women." – @MittRomney WHY ARE YOU KEEPING US IN BINDERS, ROMNEY? #debate—

(“WHY ARE YOU KEEPING US IN BINDERS, ROMNEY?”)
But then – BUT THEN – “binders full of women” became a hot internet meme.
Someone made a joke on Twitter about God giving Adam a binder and that led me to tweet:
Someone PLEASE photoshop the Sistine Chapel ceiling with God giving Adam a binder labeled "WOMEN." #binderfullofwomen—

From Awkwardmitt (@awkwardmittens) in a tweet which read, “Here Adam…Take this #binderfullofwomen. Your Eve awaits.”:
Finally, my tweet about the Sistine Chapel was spotlighted by UPROXX in their post, “The Internet Responded to Mitt Romney’s ‘Binders Full of Women’ Remark” (which multiple people on Twitter alerted me to – THANK YOU!).
The next slide featured this image:
UPROXX linked this image to Buzzfeed. And Buzzfeed linked it to nobody, apparently. So, well done on Mario Piperni’s part to put his website in the lower right corner. And putting his website (mariopiperni.com) into my web browser easily led me to this post: “Obama Wins Debate and Women in Binders is Born.“
When I went to Mario’s twitter feed (@mariopiperni), I see that he sent me the link to his post last night but my @’s were wonky and I never saw it. So, I’m glad that I ran across it.
I am constantly in awe that 1) anyone reads my tweets, 2) anyone re-tweets the ridiculous things I type, and 3) people respond in such spectacular ways.
Thank you to Boston Bud, Azure Ghost, Jeremy Capp, AwkwardMitt, and Mario Piperni. Thank you thank you thank you.
Here is the smile you all put on my face:

Ahhhh hahahahaha.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t selecting specific groups to hire from in order to diversity your workplace… affirmative action?
