scATX: Speaker's Corner in the ATX

On my Soapbox

About

In Hyde Park, London, there’s this amazing space called Speakers’ Corner.  Every Sunday morning, people gather, they stand on their soapboxes, and they speak their minds about whatever topics concern them that day.

My name is Jessica Luther and I live in Austin, Texas. This blog is my own Speaker’s Corner.

And just some words of warning.  I am a liberal.  I support full reproductive and bodily choice.  I support gay marriage.  I am a feminist.  I am a wife and mother.  I am a professional historian.  I believe that institutional racism is real.  I believe misogyny is part and parcel of our society.  I believe in the ability of government to help, though I also fully support charities and NGOs.  I am an optimist.

Welcome.

And now you can follow me on Twitter at @scATX.

I have a reproductive rights blog: Keep Your Boehner Out of My Uterus (which has its own Twitter account and Facebook page).

I also have a Tumblr that I post to off and on when I find something interesting while working on my dissertation, which is on 17th-century Barbados, English empire, slavery, science, and changing ideas about the human body: The History of Barbados and Other Things.
